Pack Like a Pro: The Complete Guide to Packing for a House Move
Choosing the Right Boxes
Use double-walled removal boxes for heavy items (books, crockery, kitchen equipment) and single-walled for light items (pillows, bedding, clothes). Never overload — if you can't lift it comfortably, it's too heavy. The sweet spot is 15–20kg maximum per box.
Essential Materials
- Double and single-walled removal boxes
- Unprinted packing paper
- Bubble wrap (at least one large roll per bedroom)
- Packing tape and dispenser
- Permanent markers and coloured labels
- Zip-lock bags for screws and small parts
- Wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes
The Kitchen
Wrap each plate individually in unprinted paper and pack them vertically on their edge — not flat. Wrap glasses individually and stand them upright. Seal all bottles with cling film before replacing lids. Pack oils and cleaning products separately in sealed bags.
Bedroom and Wardrobes
Wardrobe boxes are the best investment in your packing kit. Clothes stay hanging and crease-free. Disassemble bed frames the night before the move and keep all fixings in labelled zip-lock bags taped to the frame.
Electronics
Original manufacturer boxes are best. Back up all computers before moving. Remove batteries from remotes and devices. Label all cables and photograph connections before dismantling.
