Which Van Size Do You Need? A Practical Moving Guide
Van Size Overview
| Van Type | Load Volume | Best For | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Van | 2–4 m³ | Studio / single room | £40/hr |
| Medium Transit | 6–9 m³ | 1–2 bed flat | £50/hr |
| Large Transit LWB | 10–14 m³ | 2–3 bed house | £60/hr |
| Luton (tail lift) | 18–24 m³ | 3–5 bed house, pianos | £75/hr |
Room-by-Room Guide
Studio or 1-bed flat: A medium Transit is almost always right. If you have two full wardrobes or a large sofa, size up.
2-bed flat or house: Large Transit handles most 2-bed homes in one trip. Sectional sofa, piano or large garage? Consider a Luton.
3-bed house: A Luton van with tail lift is the default recommendation. Safe, fast and protects your furniture.
4-bed house or larger: Two vans are typically needed for larger family homes.
When in Doubt, Size Up
A van slightly too large costs a little more. A van too small could require a second trip — doubling travel time, fuel and hire charge. When it's borderline, size up.
